The Great Australia Day Beach Party
The Great Australia Day Beach Party!
The Great Australia Day Beach Party has well-earned reputation as one of the biggest and best Australia Day events in the State. With the availability of the Keppel Kraken Water Play Area, the event is undoubtedly the best event in town with a jam-packed 12 hour non-stop entertainment and beach fun activity program. Check it out!
Commencing as always with open markets, rides and amusements this year will again feature the Family Fun Run and beach BBQ.
There is STALLS GALORE with over 30 stallholders selling a wide variety including jewellery, clothing, shoes, indigenous art and home made goods. You’ll also find an abundance of food including burgers, donuts, ice-cream, pizza, slushies, hot dogs, sandwich’s and Asian dishes to choose from and of course no beach party is complete without fairy floss on a stick.
Family Fun Activities
Activities include the Sand Sculpture Competition, Beach Games, Face Painting, WOW Balls and entertainment for young and old. A sensational program of entertainment and family fun.
This competition has three categories – Midgets (up to 7 years), Juniors (8 to 12 years) and Open (all ages). Entry to the competition is ABSOLUTELY FREE and there is prizes to be won.
Sculpture themes in the past have ranged from traditional Australia Day themes to Australian marine animals, abstract art and traditional sandcastles. Themes and artistic expression for sculptures will be only limited by the imagination of the contestants. Previous years have seen up to 200 contestants taking part with both individual and team entries so register early to join in the fun. The only limitation is sculptures must be made with hand tools only and predominantly using materials found on the beach.
Great Australia Day Beach Party organisers are reminding everyone to be sun-smart on the day and to ‘slip, slop, slap’.
It is amazing how creative people can be. Loved all the different ideas. Even the really little kids put their imagination into the sand
This has traditionally been one of the highlights of the beach program. And in case anyone has the wrong impression it is the boats that have the ‘bare-bottoms’ not the contestants.
Essentially this is a fun beach race over approximately 100 metres with teams of four people racing in bottomless boats. Boats are supplied and entry to the competition is once again ABSOLUTELY FREE. All people need to do is get a team of four people and nominate on the day.
Categories include Boys and Girls Midgets (under 8’s), Boys and Girls Juniors (under 13’s), Men & Women’s Open, Senior Men and Women (over 40’s), and Veteran Men and Women (over 55’s).
What a blast. Haven’t had so much fun in years. Just goes to show that even the oldies can join in the fun too

Yeppoon Lagoon
Yeppoon Foreshore
Keppel Kraken
Main Beach
There are several good beaches in the area, with the main Yeppoon Beach, site of the surf lifesaving club, located at the end of the main shopping street. The beach is 1.4 km long, extending from the low intertidal rocks at Spring Head almost due south to the mouth of Ross Creek, where there is a small breakwater.
The Yeppoon Lagoon
The Yeppoon Lagoon is the jewel in the crown of the Yeppoon foreshore precinct. The 2500 square-metre resort style lagoon pool is located right on the beach front and includes a shallow children’s play area, an informal lap swimming area and a swim-up infinity edge with stunning views over the Keppel Islands.
Free Water Play Area
Taking pride of place on the Yeppoon Foreshore, the Keppel Kraken is a water play feature quite unlike any other. With a mythical sea creature centrepiece and set against the spectacular backdrop of Keppel Bay, Yeppoon’s newest tourist attraction is the perfect place to soak up some sunshine on the beautiful Capricorn Coast.
